London airports to Smart Hostels: Heathrow, Stansted, Gatwick & Luton

London travel photography

Choose the airport train and the final Tube connection together. These routes are planning suggestions, not live timetables: check your travel date with TfL and the operator. Allow for baggage, interchanges and disruption, especially before an early flight.

Heathrow: direct Piccadilly or Elizabeth line

Russell Square: take an eastbound Piccadilly-line train from Heathrow to Russell Square, then walk to Smart Russell Square on Guilford Street. Camden Inn: continue to King’s Cross St Pancras, change to the northbound Northern line to Camden Town, then walk to Bayham Street.

Hyde Park Inn and Hyde Park View: take the Elizabeth line to Paddington, then walk or use a Circle/District-line service to Bayswater. Another option is Piccadilly to Earl’s Court, then a District-line train towards Edgware Road to Bayswater. Check the branch and terminal before boarding.

Stansted: Tottenham Hale or Liverpool Street

Russell Square: Stansted Express to Tottenham Hale, Victoria line to King’s Cross St Pancras, then Piccadilly line one stop to Russell Square. Camden Inn: use the same route to King’s Cross, then the northbound Northern line to Camden Town.

Hyde Park Inn and Hyde Park View: Stansted Express to Liverpool Street, then westbound Central line to Queensway and walk. Oyster is not valid at Stansted Airport; use a valid rail ticket or check the operator’s current contactless rules.

Gatwick: Thameslink or Victoria

Russell Square: take a Thameslink service that stops at St Pancras International, then Piccadilly line to Russell Square. Camden Inn: from St Pancras, take the northbound Northern line to Camden Town. Check the train’s stopping pattern.

Hyde Park Inn and Hyde Park View: Southern or Gatwick Express to Victoria, then a westbound District-line train towards Edgware Road to Bayswater. Alternatively, Thameslink to Farringdon and a westbound Circle-line service via King’s Cross and Paddington to Bayswater. Compare full journeys and fares; Gatwick Express is not the only train.

Luton: DART first, then rail

From the terminal, take the Luton DART to Luton Airport Parkway, then a Thameslink train towards London. A through-ticket to “Luton Airport” can include DART; a ticket only to “Luton Airport Parkway” does not automatically cover it.

Russell Square: leave the train at St Pancras and take Piccadilly to Russell Square. Camden Inn: Northern line from King’s Cross St Pancras to Camden Town. Hyde Park Inn and View: continue on a suitable Thameslink service to Farringdon, then a westbound Circle-line train via King’s Cross and Paddington to Bayswater.

The last walk to your hostel

Smart Russell Square: 71–72 Guilford Street, from Russell Square station. Smart Hyde Park Inn: 48–50 Inverness Terrace, from Bayswater or Queensway. Smart Hyde Park View: 16 Leinster Terrace, from Bayswater or Queensway. Smart Camden Inn: 55–57 Bayham Street, from Camden Town; Mornington Crescent can also be useful on the appropriate Northern-line branch.

Open the matching hostel page for the location map and address. Tube stations and interchanges are not all step-free; use TfL’s accessibility filters if you need lifts or are carrying heavy bags.

Tickets, late arrivals and the return flight

Buy the correct airport ticket or confirm pay-as-you-go coverage for the specific service. Do not assume Oyster works on every airport train. Use the same contactless card or device to touch in and out; mixing them can cause separate charges.

Check last services, engineering works and airline arrival advice. Coaches may be an alternative, but road traffic changes journey times. We do not quote fixed fares or guaranteed transfer times because they depend on the date, service and ticket.
